Greenhouses marketGreenhouses in Russia are the main suppliers of vegetables and flowers in Russia. Much depends on foreign suppliers. For example, 90% of the fresh flowers are imported including fresh fruit import share 50% and in winter - up to 80%. The main suppliers are Holland, Ecuador, Colombia. The volume of vegetable market is also high, for example, only the costs of tomatoes delivery are usually 360 million USD. In 2011 Russia’s government publicly acknowledge the need for 2.700 hectares of high-tech greenhouses to grow vegetables. The real market potential is even higher. The approximate winter greenhouse area in Russia is 2500 hectares, of which 82% are outdated greenhouses which need renovation, 13% - updated greenhouses, 5% is built or planned to construction projects. According to the plans of Russia’s Ministry of Agriculture and the program “Development of greenhouse vegetable production of Russian Federation for 2012-2014 with the continuation of activities until 2020” the implementation will increase the area of winter greenhouses in 2014 to 3 thousand hectares, in 2020 – up to 4700 hectares. Gross output in 2014 will be 720 thousand tons.
